"Neko, come on! We're late for class!"
"But did you see that? I mean, that was awesome, huh, Ookami? Neko twitched her cat ears and smiled at her friend.
Ookami twisted her wolf pendant and tugged on Neko's arm. "Come one, Neko! I refuse to hear the end of Mr. Arigato's lecture on attendance because of you!" She continued to persist for a while longer and gave up. "FINE! You be late and suffer!! I won't anymore!!!" She turned and walked off to class.
She reached class early so she got a light pencil foundation for a scene from her memory on paper.
Someone had sat next to Ookami. She, thinking it was Neko come to apologize, turned to snap, but saw it was her hunky crush, Takai. Long black hair, extremely dark brown eyes, mile-long eyelashes, how he made her swoon without doing anything. And he was smiling kindly at her. "Hey Ookami. How's it going?"
"It's going well, Takai. Why do you ask?" She thought for a moment. "Scratch that. Why are you here and what do you want?"
He chuckled and smiled again. Then he cleared his throat and looked nervous. "I, um, was wondering if you had any plans tomorrow night? And if not, maybe you would like to have some dinner with me?"
Ookami blushed and her dark grey wolf ears laid back flat, a sign of contentment. "I'd love too!" She blurted out. *Oh, God, if I'm dreaming, don't wake me up* She thought as her heart began to pound faster.
Takai smiled more confidently. "Great! I'll call you later to arrange the details." He got up and went to his seat, and soon was surrounded by his posse and fan club. Mr. Arigato walked in the door and to his desk, sitting down just as the bell rang. "Ah, Miss Ookami. How nice to see your smiling face present and on time in our class. This is an honor." He remarked.
"Thank you, Mr. Arigato." Ookami bowed her head respectfully.
"Back to business now. Class will begin.... With our usual daily attendance lecture, brought to you by Miss Neko." He gestured to Neko standing in the doorway. "And today you are accompanied by Mr. Takai's friend, Mr. Inu. You know the rules, ladies and gentlemen. Miss Ookami, will you please move your belongings and take the vacant seat next to Mr. Takai."
Ookami's heart pounded faster, and Takai turned in his seat and grinned broadly at her. Neko saw this and turned red with anger. Everyone knew that Neko wanted Takai, and would stop at nothing to get him for herself. Ookami gathered her belongings and moved down the aisle as Neko walked up to her seat. Only two people saw Neko's foot stick out, and suddenly Ookami fell. "Ow!"
"Ookami! Are you ok?" Takai was kneeling next to her.
"I'm fine. I just tripped over my own feet. But... Oh, my sketches!" She quickly gathered them up and sat at her seat. Mr. Arigato said nothing. But he gave Neko that look that meant she was in for it.
Ookami began to take notes from his lecture on habitats for raions, or lions. Takai's other friend, Raion, spoke up. "So, Mr. Arigato, would this be my habitat. ROAR!!!" And he roared like a lion, causing everyone to laugh. Ookami smiled and laughed a little just as Takai turned his head to her.
"You know, you're really cute when you laugh." He smiled at her.
Instantly, as if a button inside had been hit, she stopped laughing and blushed. *He likes my laugh? But I hate it!*
Mr. Arigato spoke up. "Class, I've decided to let you have a free day, if you wish to call it. But only if you keep the craziness of this class to a minimum. No party animals, or I'll send you out. Miss Neko, please gather your belongings and come here." He, and the rest of the class except Ookami, looked up at Neko.
Neko glared at Ookami and stormed out, slamming the door behind her.
Ookami kept her eyes to her sketch as Neko stormed off. That is, until Takai poked her in the side. "So, uh, what time do you want me to come pick you up for dinner?" He smiled that dazzling smile that made every girl swoon. Ookami felt all light and bubbly from that smile of his.
"Seven would be nice." She blushed lightly and smiled at him. She continued back to her sketch, fully aware of him watching her interestedly. "What are you staring at, Takai?"
He blushed too. "Um, you're very good at drawing. I envy your talent."
Ookami blushed even more. "Uh." She chuckled nervously. "Thanks. I appreciate it." She smiled and went back to the sketch. Then she realized that she was living every girl's dream by going out with him. She wasn't every other girl. Was she?
No way, she thought. There's gotta be a reason why he's singled me out for a date. I mean, there's Neko, Koi, and all the other girls who are far prettier than me.
